First Week of First Grade!

Welcome back to a new school year! I'm so excited to begin our year in First Grade. Check out some of the fun things we did this week!

Meet the newest members of First Grade!!

*For more pictures, see our class Instagram page!
Our username is @fhroom6.

Be sure to ask your First Grader about some of the fun things we did this week!

-Ask your First Grader how he/she felt on the first day of school. We made a class chart to graph our different feelings!

- What is your child's hope & dream for this year? What does your child hope to learn in First Grade?

- What are good rules to have in our classroom, and why?

- We had our very first "Fun Friday" with the other First Grade classrooms. We made our own "crayon" after reading The Crayon Box that Talked. Ask your child what makes him/her unique.

-We read Wemberly Worried, and discussed what we worry about.

-We read many stories this week! Ask your child which was their favorite.

Easing Your Child's Transition into First Grade:
Here's what you can expect for the next next several weeks, along with some tips!

  • First grade is a longer day than Kindergarten. Your child will be VERY tired! Ensure your First Grader gets a good night's sleep and has a consistent routine when going to bed.
  • Your child will benefit from eating a healthy breakfast in the morning to fuel up for the day's learning.
  • Send in a nutritious (and nut-free!) snack with your child each morning. This will help keep him/her ready to learn throughout the day!
  • In First grade we have specials. This means your child will have more than one teacher at school. He/she will have a different teacher for art, music, P.E., and possibly reading class.
  • Check out our special's schedule, and review it often with your child. Knowing what to expect each day will help to ease their transition.
  • First Grade teachers do not supervise children in the cafeteria during lunch time (unlike Kindergarten). Especially for the first few weeks of school, it would be helpful if your child has everything he/she needs for lunch in their lunch box (i.e. utensils, napkins, water bottle, etc).
  • Please keep our Classroom Rules in a prominent place and review them often with your child.  We are all working together to create a safe and caring community of learners!
  • Celebrate your child! First Grade is a lot of work. Let your child know you are proud of them for having a successful first week of First Grade, and to keep up the good work!

Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns! I would be more than happy to set up a time to speak over the phone or meet in person regarding your child's transition into First Grade.
The quickest way to reach me is via email: kchristie@bpsk12.org.

I look forward to seeing you at Back to School Night on Wednesday, September 13th at 6:30.

I can't wait for another fantastic week in First Grade!

Kindergarten Has Been a "Ball!"

We have been having so much fun these past few weeks! Check out the photos below, featuring a mystery reader, field day, and BEACH DAY!!!

THANK YOU to Rhys' dad for coming in to be a Mystery Reader last Friday!!!

Kindergarteners had so much fun at Field Day on Monday! We got to do activities such as playing games on the parachute, ring toss, relay races, and more!

Our class reward on Friday was well deserved! We had so much fun at "beach day!"
Students participated in "beach day activities," including reading a favorite book with their beach towel, bowling with coconut "balls," using fun beach straws with snack, and playing LIMBO at the end of the day!!!
Check out the fun photos!

Check out some hula dancers from Room 6! 😀

Protect the Popsicle Challenge
Students prepared and built their very own structures to protect popsicles from melting in the sun. Each student was placed in a group. Students had to work together to build a strong, sturdy structure to prevent a popsicle from melting.
Thank you to Mr. Musselman for helping us with this fun challenge!
We can't wait to test out our structures next week when the sun is out!!

Room 6 is Ready for SUMMER!!!
