Dear Families,
We are preparing to celebrate Valentine's Day! In learning about this holiday, we focused on kindness and what it means to be a good friend. We read stories, watched videos, and discussed different ways we can be kind in our classroom and at Fox Hill.
Morning Meeting:
During morning meeting this week, each student had to find the other half of their "broken heart." Once two students made a match with their hearts, they would be "buddies" for the rest of the day! They had to eat snack, spend time at recess, and eat lunch with their buddy.
In doing this, it was my hope that students would leave their comfort zone to spend time with new friends in our classroom.
Be sure to ask your child who was his/her buddy each day this week!!
Procedural Shares:
This week, Abigail shared with us how to make chocolate milk; and Erin shared with us how to draw a rainbow. Great job, girls!
*Due to snow days, and other unforeseen events, the day your child is scheduled to share may change. I will email you with another day/time your child can share!!
Poem of the Week:
Happy 6th Birthday to Giovanni! He turned 6 on Tuesday, February 7th!
On Friday, we had our very first Mystery Reader... Mr. Linskey!
We heard the story "The Book With No Pictures" and it was a BIG hit!
Thanks again to Mr. Linskey!
Sight Words:
We are officially half way through our goal of learning 50 sight words!!! The students are doing a phenomenal job in learning to read and write these words fluently. A big THANK YOU for all your help in supporting your child in practicing their sight words at home.
*We will not be learning any new sight words next week. Please use this break to continue to practice the words learned thus far with your child. In addition, you can use this time to hone in on specific words that are more difficult for your child.
Next week we have some fun upcoming events!!!
On Tuesday, we will celebrate Valentines Day with a special "party in a bag" snack, along with doing some fun crafts and centers in the morning. We will open our Valentines from our friends in the afternoon. We can't wait!
February 17th: 100th Day of School!
Due to the snow day on Thursday 2/9, our 100th day of school will now be on Friday, February 17th!!! We are very excited about celebrating this special accomplishment in Kindergarten.
Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns regarding helping your child decorate his/her cape. Don't forget to send in your child's cape by Monday, February 13th!!!
Thank you!!
Guiding Questions:
- Who was your child's "buddy" each day this week? Did your child learn anything new about a friend?
- How is your child a good friend to others?
- Can your child recite our poem of the week? (see above)
Have a wonderful weekend, and stay warm!!!
